How lenders decide your eligibility

Every Indian lender uses a Fixed Obligations to Income Ratio (FOIR) to cap how much of your monthly income can be committed to loan EMIs. For home loans, FOIR usually sits at 50 to 55 percent. For unsecured loans, banks apply a stricter 40 to 50 percent limit.

  • Income

Salary, business income and rental income all count toward the base.

  • Obligations

Existing EMIs and credit card minimums reduce your headroom.

  • Credit score

A score above 750 unlocks the highest FOIR and the best rate.

  • Tenure

Longer tenure lowers each EMI, letting you qualify for a larger amount.
